Yesterday, I was minding my own business and scrolling through Instagram, when I saw this question: “Using a food, tell us where you are from.”

What would your answer be? I was born in pain au chocolat, but began elementary school in prawn cocktail crisps, then moved to Detroit-style pizza for the rest of school and college (although we still spent every summer with family in fish and chips). When I was 22, I moved to bagels and lox, where I’ve lived ever since.
